Here are a few unique advantages to wind power:
- Electricity generation from wind farms reduces the emission of carbon dioxide by 99 per cent over coal-fired electricity plants and by 98 percent over natural gas. This includes the emissions created by the production of the turbines.
- Any greenhouse gases emitted during the manufacturing, installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of a large wind turbine are offset after only six months of use.
- Wind farms require less land than other sources of energy. Wind turbines, roads, and support structures take up about five per cent of the land area in a wind farm making the rest of the land available for farming or grazing livestock.
